Life can lead to unexpected and surprising paths, and mine led to this retreat in the mountains. I consider it a writer’s retreat, but here’s the truth: Yes, I use this space as a quiet and authentic place to write, but I also write far away from here at my desk in an apartment in the busy city. I write propped up in a big blue chaise. Almost every day I carry my laptop to bed and write buried within the covers. When I walk the dog, take a shower, or drive to the grocery store, I write in my head. Still, when life’s journey led to this Zen-like home in southwest Colorado, my husband and I decided to be a little unconventional and forego a regular house for a retreat. Currently, the place is bare bones. It has a bed, a kitchen table, and two chairs. (But really, what more does a writer need than a place to sit and sleep?) One day we’d like to make it available to others to use as a writer’s retreat. Or to read. Or paint, or rest, or reinvigorate the spirit, or, well, you name it. If you’re up for an adventure, we could probably make it available now. Otherwise, check back in a year or two. Contact me for details.
