A New Column: Green Scene
I first got hooked on coffee in law school. I blame Professor Nelson's early morning property class. And those late night study sessions. Also the daily commute, demanding workload and constant stress, stress, stress. Thirteen years later, I'm no longer practicing law, but I'm still addicted to coffee . . . to continue reading this piece, join me over here where I'm the new Green Scene columnist. In my debut column, I talk about my struggle to stay off coffee, and I highlight a number of Earth-friendly coffee spots around D.C. (there are additional locations listed in the print version).
My next topic? Junk mail. As a writer, I wind up on magazine subscriber lists and once that happens, BAM, junk mail galore. How do you deal with the waste that shows up uninvited in your mailbox? Have you tried Green Dimes or Catalog Choice? Do they work? What other tools do you employ to handle your paper mail? I'd love to hear your thoughts, so leave a comment or drop me an e-mail and share your words of wisdom. (I might quote ya. Unless you don't want me to, in which case I won't!)

Every catalog I used to get I went online and requested I be dropped.
And the coffee thing? Moderation. That's the key.

Congrats on the new column. It looks great.
Another green thing to consider with coffee are all those throw-away cups. Luckily I didn't become a coffee drinker until I moved to Europe and the Europeans don't have a "run with your drink" culture. If you have a cup of coffee here, you sit for a few hours with a nice, reusable ceramic mug.

Thanks, Chantal. I love the "sit down and enjoy it" approach. Most places here give you a discount if you bring your own mug. The sidebar that ran w/ it on bringing your own mug didn't run online.

I'm with "happy medium." Moderation is the key. And tea is a lovely, lovely substitute as the day wears on. You can even doctor it up with milk and make it rich and decadent.
I love this career of yours! I love how it has taken off. Bravo, Jenny!

After A LOT of experimenting, I finally found a couple herbal teas I like almost as much as coffee. Almost. :-)
