Book of Poems

I’m thinking of starting with Jane Kenyon. Or maybe Donald Hall writing on Jane Kenyon. Mary Oliver is tempting. Or should I buy Roger Housden’s Ten Poems to Change Your Life and sample a variety of artists? I’ve never read a ton of poetry, but now feel drawn to it. Do you have a favorite book of poems?

Hi Jenny,

I picked up Cricket Never Does from the library a few weeks ago. It is a collection of haiku and tanka by Myra Cohn Livingston. It's intended for young readers but I've fallen in love with it. I would have to say it's my favorite poetry book at the moment.

I picked up Good Poems, edited by Garrison Keiller (sp? The Prairie Home Companion guy). Loved it - huge variety. Now I'm into T.S. Eliot but he does make my brain hurt.

I'm totally in love with anything Mary Oliver. My favorite of hers might be Blue Pastures.
