Space Case

My article on the Space Case is running in today's issue of The Washington Post. (Style section.) I thought the other essay on the popcorn popper was a perfect complement, so for a good laugh read that too.

It's funny to see my piece in print today. We went through the space-casing process 1 year after we were married, and we're about to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary. It often takes that long to (1) have an experience; (2) realize there's a story there and write an essay about it; (3) find a home for the piece; and (4) wait for it to sit through the queue until its turn for publication (#4 is especially true for personal essays because they're often evergreen topics with limited markets). The first essay I ever sold -- before I officially launched my writing career -- is still in line for publication, although the editor assures me it will run. Anyway, hope you enjoy reading the Space Case.
