Um...Help?
Thanksgiving is at our place this year.
We move November 17 and my family arrives three days later.
Believe me, I’m not the one who is nuts. My family claims they are looking forward to helping us unpack, hang pictures, and, of course, cook.
I’m all for it.
The cooking part should be interesting. Other than pouring cereal, slapping together a PB&J, or boiling pasta and dumping red sauce on top, the time I’ve spent in the kitchen has been severely limited – that is, until this past year when I turned over a new leaf and began blogging about clean eating. But despite my dedication to juicing, expanding my skills from basic spaghetti to more fancy stuff, and debating the benefits of coffee, I’ve never tackled anything as major as a major holiday.
So far my Turkey Day “to do” list looks like this:
1. Order a turkey (I found a local, sustainable farm - check!)
What else does it entail? Oh, I know. Number 2 on my list will be “buy champagne.” That should cover the basics, right?

That's an already-dead turkey you ordered there, right?
I'd start with wine-- maybe no one will notice there's no food.
I'm no help, really-- we're vegetarian. We try to skip the meal part of Thanksgiving get-togethers every year.

It better be dead. I'm not plucking feathers!

How about inviting your relatives to each bring a dish of their choice, or ask each to suggest one and send you the recipe so you can pick up ingredients and they can cook it at your place ;) Enjoy your first holiday in your new home! What a wonderful way to bless it.

Thanks yogababy. Brilliant idea.

Skip the turkey, the champagne is plenty!

I agree. The champagne will be actually necessary and I love the idea of a pot luck. Who wants to cook that much when you've just MOVED?! And, remember, someone can always pick up something at one of those Honey Baked places if necessary. They're not bad.

I second Carrie's great idea. In fact, champagne makes moving better, too!
:) Good luck!!

Item three, paper plates. I know it doesn't go along with the 'sustainable living' thing so well, but if you find unbleached ones you can compost them and you can spend the rest of the time enjoying your company with the champagne!

Reservations. I reccomend reservations. Not that you coudln't do a fabulous meal, (of course you could) but why kill yourself when you are MOVING that week?
