Book Craze
Library: a place set apart to contain books

One of these days I’m going to fulfill my dream of building a home library. My current library is a bunch of books crammed into a single shelf and lots more in storage boxes. The other day I had lunch with a woman who has a home library – built-ins, a fireplace, a comfy couch, the works.
We mulled over important issues:
-how she organized the books
-whether she should arrange them by title or author
-how deep to build the shelves (apparently 12-inches is standard)
-and, most importantly, exactly where inside her books she should use her personalized "FROM THE LIBRARY OF" stamp.
Does anyone have a home library? How do you organize it? I’d love to hear.

Yep. It's organized by books read, books waiting to be read, old classics, etc.

Have one. Two whole walls of built-ins. It's why we bought the house.
Organize it? Huh?
The bottom two shelves are all kids books, thrown in willie-nilly.
A few shelves are parenting/autism/books in no particular order.
One shelf is photo albums.
One is nursing/pharmacy school books that will never be used.
A couple of shelves just have family photos in frames.
I even have shelves that aren't used up yet! Are you jealous?
Don't be. We're moving.
No "order" but I know where everything is, mostly.
Regretfully, I don't have a stamp.

Sorry, I can't help you.
The kids have a small bookcase in their rooms. Kourtni has a bunch of kids' books in hers, but it's not orderly. Big. Little. Thick. Hardcover. Softcover. Backwards. Upside down. All mixed up. Jennee has hers the same way (she does have them all facing the same way, though), but the top shelf is full of VHS videos and a growing collection of DVDs. (No place for them.) My schhol books are in two big plastic rubbermaid bins in the attic.
My ex's grandmother a had wall-to-wall library (on opposing walls). It's all original hardcovers. His grandfather collected books. I never thought to ask what order they were in. All I could think about is how much fun it was to dust.

My "library" consists of two bookshelves on top of each other. Ideally, I have it organized by subject, then alphabetical by author's last name. I had to tinker with some of the organization for size purposes (hardbacks are really big), but that's mostly it.
Oh and when peopel check out my books, I just put a slip of paper in where the book was supposed to go.
For example: I wanted to read Cost of Discipleship the other day. My library system informed me that:
Bonhoeffer, Dietrich
The Cost of Discipleship
Loand to : Jenny Rough
Due Back: Probably never, might want to buy a new one.

Well for the record I finally started reading The Cost of Discipleship (you know, the surgery and all had me rather bedridden). I also started reading your wife's book that she loaned me (The Other Boleyn Girl). So you two might have your books returned before you even know it!
