Life's Little Joys
A little over a week ago Ron and I walked through downtown Washington DC to see the cherry blossoms (before they blew off the trees). Gorgeous. Breathtaking. Like snow. And yet. Yet...I expected them to be gorgeous and breathtaking and like snow. It’s nice when life meets your expectations (and goodness knows I have high, unrealistic expectations!).
But at times life hits me with a moment that is unexpected. This may sound silly – and I’ll admit this does not compare to cherry blossoms – but the other day in tennis clinic the instructor wheeled over a basket of brand-spanking-new balls. An entire grocery cart full of them.
Bounce
Bounce
Bouncy-bounce-bounce-bounce.
I love playing tennis with brand new yellow fuzzy balls. Normally they come in canisters of three. Not a bad number, but not nearly as exciting as hundreds of them all at once. All over the place.
Again, if I had to choose, I'd pick snowflowers over a bunch of silly man-made manufactured tennis balls. But those little unexpected life moments, gosh, I just love them.

Yep, there is joy in every moment if we pay attention and appreciate.
Love.
Isn't that a tennis term?

No doubt.
I guess we all need to remind ourselves not to take things for granted...to stop and smell the roses. Life just gets in the way and then we need to remember to stop and look. Again and again. Looks like a lot of us have the the same thoughts lately.

Don't you just love that new-tennis-ball smell?! (Although a grocery cart full of the smell might not be so good). Here's to the little things.

There is just something about abundance that is thrilling, isn't there? Not just three balls, but an entire cart full of them.
I get that feeling from an entire cluster of just about anything ordinary - cows in a field, wildflowers on a hillside, chocolate covered macadamia nuts filling a huge bowl....oh, I'm getting off track here.

I know what you mean about that tennis ball feeling...that's how I feel in a bookstore, surrounded by thousands of shiny books. It's like abundance and endless possibility all wrapped up together. And when it's unexpected...so awesome.
Here's a confession: sometimes, when I'm walking throught the library, I'm overcome with awe that they'll let me take out ANY of these books - as many as I can carry - for FREE. That's good stuff!

I, too, love the "newness" of things - including tennis balls, new cars (that smell!), and fresh fallen snow. BAck to school shopping was always a favorite of imine, too... I was always so gleeful that all of those brand-new clothes were for ME to wear!

Well said. This post pretty much sums up what I wrote about you over at my blog this week.
