Celebrating Women

Thank you, each of you, for being so supportive during this difficult time. Losing a baby is sad and it’s amazing how many women have called or e-mailed with condolences and stories of their own. Too many know the ache inside my empty arms.

One woman reminded me there was a time in history when I would be surrounded by mothers, aunts, midwives, and other females who would rub rose oil into my skin, hold me, and cry with me over my loss.

It’s a lovely image and I’ve visualized it many times.

Even though our culture is that of the “virtual world” I’m grateful for the support via the Internet. Speaking of, if you haven’t seen
Darlene’s blog, take some time to visit. Her son was in a car accident a few days before Christmas and she’s been sharing her journey. Tons of people have pulled together in amazing ways: holding vigils, coordinating dates and times for meditation, and just being generally supportive through words and prayers.

I’m working on an article that will run in May on how the Internet has brought women together in a day and age when our friends and families are scattered apart like stars. So if you have a story you would like to share for the article, please
contact me.

Thank you again for all your kind words!

Hi Jenny,

Read my oldest's story: http://literallyblindsided.blogspot.com/2006/11/lil-miracle.html

I have pictures that I haven't scanned if you would like to see them.

As an afterthought, you wanted stories about how people pulled together in cyberspace.

This all happened before I even heard of the Internet. She was born in 1994. Internet started in 1991, right? But the power of prayer via friends and family and the congregation helped.

Jenny -
I'm continuing to hold you and Ron in my prayers. The story about connecting sounds wonderful. It wasn't terribly profound, but it was very fun and inspiring to meet some bloggers for dinner earlier this year. Something about meeting face-to-face cements the connection that you already feel through comments and emailing. So - when are y'all coming to Portland? :)

Take care!

It is amazing, this whole blog world, isn't it? I feel like Darlene's honesty, and the way you've shared about baby Leo, give us all a chance to stop and think, and then offer the best caring and love we have (whereas in person, difficult events often leave me speechless and awkward, needing a moment to sort my thoughts). I'm looking forward to your article!

I am so looking forward to your article. Just this morning, my colleague was telling me how his sister was greiveing the miscarriage of one of the twins she was/is carrying.
I told him to get her onto the blogosphere so she would realize how many women there are that are sharing her story at this very moment. I asked him to send her here, first.

Your sharing helps so many others, Jen.
